It’s no secret that us humans have had the biggest and most devastating impact on planet earth than any other species in history. Sustainability is a cause we should all be concerned about and want to actively play a part in. We all have a role to play and no matter what contribution, big or small, if we’re all on board with the same goal of making sure we protect this planet for our children and grandchildren, this world will be a very different place for many more generations to come. A great place to start with learning more about sustainability and the problems we face with the environment today is through some thought-provoking documentaries. There is so much to understand about many different topics which will help you change the way you view the world and how you go about your own life and the choices you make, so we’ve highlighted below a few of our favourite sustainable documentaries to watch now if you haven’t already.

David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet
The one and only David Attenborough brought us this fantastic documentary back in 2020 as a way of shaking up our vision of the world and to really understand what is happening to the planet on and off the shore as a result of climate change. Heartbreaking, yes, but it does offer a glimmer of hope of what could be if we all put our heads together.

Before The Flood
Leonardo Dicaprio stars in and directs Before The Flood to showcase what exactly is on the line if we don’t drastically ramp up our sustainability efforts globally. He looks at how other countries approach climate change as a way of proving what can be done but also the intense political struggle that is affecting the speed of change.

Minimalism: A Documentary About Important Things
The simple life, the good life, Minimalism is a perfect example of how we can all live on less and actually be happier for it. This is a journey about discovering what it is we need to actually survive and thrive and how our obsession with possessions and destructive habits around waste is contributing to climate change.

Down To Earth
A series of short but informative episodes all about sustainable living, Down To Earth, staring Hollywood heartthrob (well, in our eyes anyway) Zac Efron and wellness expert pal, Darin Olien takes you to the depths of Costa Rica to the nordic nation of Iceland to unveil pioneering technologies used to combat climate change and the incredible people behind them.

The True Cost
When we think of sustainability we often look at our diets, how we travel or perhaps our waste in general but lurking in your closet could be one of the worst culprits for climate change. Fast fashion is a shockingly huge problem and The True Cost, delves into the high price we pay for materialism and what effect our throwaway shopping habits have on not only the environment but human rights.
