Looking for some great ideas for your next weekend away? We’re sharing our top cosy country pubs with rooms where you can enjoy some R&R.
The Wild Rabbit, The Cotswolds
Cosy interiors with a stylish neutral palette, The Wild Rabbit is a great place for city dwellers to get away from it all. Situated in a little village called Kingham, this chic little guest house belongs to Carole Bamford, founder of the mothership that is Daylesford Organic, which handily happens to be a bike ride away down the road. Expect beautifully furnished rooms, excellent food and just an all-around peaceful weekend away.
Travel tip: Swing by Daylesford’s Bamford Spa for an hour or two of bliss
The Talbot Inn Somerset
The Talbot Inn is a converted 15th-century coach house nestled in the adorable village of Mells. Their Coach House Grill serves up traditional English dishes and a pretty epic Sunday roast! Rooms are spacious and light, many come with an indulgent roll top bath in the bedroom. With scenic hiking trails and many hidden villages to explore, this is definitely a perfect base for countryside explorations.
Travel tip: Bring your wellies for muddy walks
The Swan Southwold, Suffolk
This jazzed up pub with rooms has had a modern makeover with pops of neon colour combined with more traditional style. Connected to a brewery next door, their local beer and ciders offerings are what give The Swan it’s lively, fun character. The restaurant features a trendy copper bar and gastro-pub food with an elegant twist. If you haven’t visited Suffolk before, The Swan will provide a comfortable, quirky place to rest your head after a day of exploring.
Travel tip: Bring your cycling gear! They have bikes to rent which will give you a speedy edge on discovering the local areas.
The Pig in the Wall, Hampshire
Set inside an old Georgian townhouse by the cost, The Pig in the Wall is the little sister to the famous Pig hotels everyone loves. It’s got the same charm, great quality food just in a smaller, more compact version. They don’t have a restaurant but a feast of a deli counter that serves delicious bits and bobs. Expect charcuterie and cheese boards which are ideal for gorging on after a long hike by the fire.
Travel tip: Bring your laptop to clock up some serious Netflix time whilst tucking into your feast brought up to your room from the deli.
The Beckford Arms, Wiltshire
Just 8 rooms make up The Beckford Arms, so book ahead if you want a weekend tucked away in this cosy country bolt hole. Sumptuous rooms, a pretty back garden for dining in the summer and a bustling gastro eatery serving mouth-watering classics like waffles and eggs benedict for brunch, you can’t fault this picturesque guest house.
Travel tip: Bring a good book to get stuck into by the fire (maybe with a hot chocolate!?)
The Crown, Buckinghamshire
Just 40 minutes from London, The Crown is a great excuse to make a quick getaway from the crowded city. Offering comfy beds, roll top baths and The White Company bath products, you’re guaranteed to never want to leave your room. Roaring fires and pub grub with Indian inspiration await for you downstairs. An easy, peasy, pleasant place for a romantic weekend for two.
Travel tip: Don’t leave without hiking some of The Chilterns walking trails. Beautiful scenery, a simply must do!
