Transform your kitchen into your favourite coffee house with this easy chai tea latte. A fragrant blend of bold spices combined with creamy, frothed milk and a dash of coconut oil for a smooth and satisfying drink. Try it hot or cold!

INGREDIENTS – Serves 2

1 cup whole milk (or milk alternative of your choice)

1 tablespoon coconut oil

1 stick cinnamon

1 teaspoon minced ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds

4 cardamom pods

2 star anise pods

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 to 4 tablespoons loose black tea

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

METHOD

Combine all the ingredients except the ground cinnamon together with 1/2 cup water in a small pot. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat for 5 to 7 minutes. If it begins to boil, reduce the heat to low.

Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer and then transfer to a blender. Blend 1 minute on medium speed, until frothy.

Divide the latte between 2 mugs. Top with the ground cinnamon.

Tip
To enjoy this latte cold, make it as directed and then transfer it to the refrigerator to cool. Although the froth will settle, the flavours will amplify with time; simply pour it over ice to serve. For a hot drink, you can also make the spice blend ahead of time but wait until just before serving to froth the milk.
