When was the last time you checked in on your hormones and fertility? Did you know you even could?

Despite the fact that 1 in 3 of us will suffer from a reproductive or gynaecological health condition, female reproductive health sadly continues to be dismissed and underfunded.

We’re not routinely told by our GPs that our hormones and fertility are something we can actively check in on, let alone monitor over time.

But thanks to pioneering women’s health companies like Hertility, gone are the days when we had to ‘just put up’ with hormonal symptoms, or start trying to conceive with absolutely no prior information about our fertility.

Founded by a team of all-female scientists, gynaecologists and data analysts, Hertility can help you get clear on your reproductive health and support you with everything from understanding hormonal symptoms to the journey to conception.

Their multi-award-winning at-home Hormone & Fertility Test can test up to 10 hormones and screen for up to 18 reproductive health conditions, all with one easy-to-use at-home kit.

The Hertilty Test: How Does it Work?
The Hertility Test honestly couldn’t be more convenient. You can do it all from home and buy it online, without seeing a GP for a referral. Here’s how it works:

Step 1. Online Health Assessment

First, you begin with an Online Health Assessment that asks you about any hormonal symptoms you may be experiencing as well as questions about your medical history, periods and lifestyle.

Amazingly, 26% of users get a potential diagnosis at this point, even before doing the test. This is because the assessment reviews your potential for specific health conditions, like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and other hormone-related conditions.

Step 2. Personalised Hormone Panel

This is the range of between 3 and 10 different hormones that Hertility will test for. Your panel is personal to you and is made using the answers from your Online Health Assessment.

Your panel features a specific combination of thyroid, reproductive and cycling hormones, which can include oestrogen, lutenising hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone, prolactin, Sex Hormone-binding Globulin (SHBG) and importantly for fertility, Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH)—which is used to give you an indication of your ovarian reserve, or egg count.

Step 3. At-home Blood Collection Kit

Next you get your at-home blood collection kit. This includes a simple finger-prick blood sample which is relatively painless and super easy to use. After this, you simply send your sample back to their labs and wait for your results.

Step 4. Doctor-Written Report

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Hertility Test is just how thorough the results and follow-up report are. It includes a full breakdown of your results, including each individual hormone level and a doctor-written report full of recommendations and any next steps for further treatments.

At this stage, up to 44% of people receive results that indicate that they could have a reproductive health condition. You can see a sample Hertility Test report here

What Sets Hertility Apart from Other Hormone Tests?

Hertility is by far one of the most comprehensive hormone and fertility tests we’ve seen on the market. The Online Health Assessment is incredibly detailed, covering so much more than any quick 5-10 minute GP appointment or usual blood test referral.

As opposed to other tests with difficult-to-decipher results, the Hertility report is clear with immediately actionable and personalised advice. It’s also super quick. You get your results within about 10 days of sending your sample back to their labs.

And our favourite part—it doesn’t just stop with the test. If you want to chat through your results with a specialist or get advice on any further treatments or referrals, you can book an online consultation the very next day.

Hertility’s specialists include Private Gynaecologists, Fertility Advisors, Fertility Nutritionists and Fertility Counsellors, so no matter what your results are or your fertility goals, you’re covered.

If you do decide you want to pursue, or are recommended for any further fertility treatments, you can also book appointments with vetted clinics offering pelvic ultrasound scanning and egg-freezing referrals through Hertility.

Closing The Gender Health Gap
Currently, less than 2.5% of publicly funded research is dedicated to solely female reproductive health. To put this in perspective, there is five times more research into erectile dysfunction, which affects 19% of men, than into premenstrual syndrome, which affects 90% of women.

Conditions like PCOS and Endometriosis currently impact around 1 in 10 people assigned-female-at-birth (AFAB). Yet the average time to diagnosis can be as long as 7 years.

Clearly, there is still a huge amount of work to be done to close the gender health gap—but companies like Hertility are paving the way for the future of women’s health and female-led tech businesses alike.
