The Future of Skin Longevity? Correxiko Founder Dr Dinuk Dissanayake on LED Therapy, Collagen and Ageing Well

What inspired you to create Correxiko and enter the LED space?

I originally created Correxiko because I felt the supplement industry had become too driven by marketing rather than formulation quality and clinical thinking. As a doctor, I wanted to create products grounded in physiology, biological signalling and long-term results, not trends. That same philosophy naturally led us into LED technology. Beautiful skin is not just about what you apply topically. Skin is a living organ influenced by hormones, inflammation, nutrition, circulation, sleep and cellular energy. What fascinated me about LED light therapy is that it works with the biology of the skin itself. Rather than damaging the skin to force repair, LED uses light as a biological signal to activate processes associated with collagen production, skin rejuvenation and cellular energy.

For me, the future of beauty is about working intelligently with the skin’s biology to create truly beautiful skin over time.

What makes the Correxiko LED mask different from others on the market?

The biggest difference is that our mask was built entirely around science and clinical reasoning. During development, we worked closely with a colleague of mine who is a facial reconstruction surgeon, as well as another colleague who is a professor specialising in light therapy. The development process took over two years. Every part of the mask, from the wavelengths to the coverage and fit, was designed around treatment effectiveness rather than aesthetics or trends. A major issue with many LED masks is that the design often prioritises how the device looks rather than how effectively light reaches key treatment areas.

We specifically engineered the mask to provide uninterrupted coverage across areas most associated with visible ageing:
• forehead
• under-eye area
• jawline and jowls
• around the mouth and lips

The forehead and lower face are particularly important because these are areas where collagen decline, skin laxity and volume loss become increasingly visible with age.

• Amber Light (590nm)
• Red Light (633nm)
• Near Infrared (830nm)
• Deep Infrared (1072nm)

We also intentionally excluded blue light.

Blue light is commonly used in acne-focused devices, however emerging research suggests excessive blue light exposure may contribute to oxidative stress, pigmentation concerns and free radical generation within the skin. There are also concerns around long-term eye exposure. For younger acne-prone skin, blue light can have short-term uses. But for women over 45, particularly those experiencing peri-menopause or menopause, the focus shifts toward collagen decline, skin thinning, dryness, sensitivity and loss of elasticity. That required a very different design philosophy. Many women in this age group also develop more reactive or barrier-compromised skin over time, which is why we designed the mask with adjustable intensity settings and pulse modes.

Rather than blasting the skin at maximum intensity immediately, the protocol allows users to progressively build skin tolerance and optimise results over time. This approach is not about comfort, it’s about achieving better long-term rejuvenation outcomes for mature skin. Everything about the mask was designed from a clinically engineered perspective rather than a marketing perspective.

Do LED face masks really work, and what results can people realistically expect?

Yes. When designed correctly and used consistently, LED masks can produce very impressive results. What makes LED particularly interesting is that we are using biological signalling to influence how the skin behaves over time. That process is not instant. The skin requires repeated signalling and consistency in order to create visible changes.

But when used properly, people can expect to see improvements in:

• firmness

When is the best time to use an LED mask, morning or evening?

Most people prefer using it in the evening because it becomes part of a more relaxing ritual, but physiologically consistency matters far more than timing. Personally, I think the best skincare routines are the ones people genuinely enjoy and can sustain long term.

What does your own personal skincare or wellness routine look like?

My approach is actually very science-driven and surprisingly simple.

I think modern skincare often underestimates how much skin reflects overall physiology. Poor sleep, chronic stress, inflammation, hormonal changes and nutritional deficiencies all become visible in the skin. What many experts actually do themselves is focus on maintaining the biological systems that create better skin in the first place. That’s why I prefer evidence-based approaches rooted in physiology rather than constantly chasing trends or overcomplicating skincare. The philosophy behind the LED mask was exactly the same. The goal is to optimise the skin, reverse visible signs of ageing and help people feel confident in their skin at every age.
