Your Wedding Skin Countdown: The Expert Guide to a Healthy Bridal Glow by Dr Christine Or

Every bride’s wish is to look radiant and feel confident on her wedding day, but truly luminous skin is rarely achieved through last-minute fixes. The secret to radiant bridal skin is preparation, consistency, and supporting your skin with the right medical-grade products and skincare routine over time.

Award-winning Aesthetic Doctor and skin expert, Dr Christine Or, encourages brides to think of skincare as part of their overall wellness journey. Healthy, hydrated and balanced skin creates the perfect canvas for makeup on your special day and helps you to feel confident both on the day itself and in the photographs you will treasure forever.

Whether you are a year away from your wedding or counting down the final few weeks, Dr Christine shares her expert advice and bridal skincare timeline to support you in achieving your healthiest skin for your special day.

12 months before your wedding day: building the foundations

The earlier you begin your skincare journey, the better the results are likely to be. This stage is about understanding your skin concerns and building a consistent routine that strengthens the skin barrier, improves hydration and helps address concerns such as pigmentation, dullness and breakouts.

In the morning, start with a gentle cleanser such as the Obagi Nu-Derm Gentle Cleanser, to gently remove impurities and oil, and leave skin clean and fresh. Next, apply an antioxidant serum such as the AlumierMD EverActive C&E + to brighten the skin whilst helping protect against environmental damage. After your serum, use a moisturising cream and then finish by protecting your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF.

In the evening, double cleanse with your gentle cleanser to thoroughly remove makeup and impurities from the day before starting your night care routine. Retinoids can be applied at night and, when used appropriately and under professional guidance from an Aesthetic Doctor or skin specialist, can help to improve skin texture, pigmentation and fine lines over time. Finally, finish with a product that is rich and hydrating to support overnight skin repair.

9 months before your wedding day: targeting specific skin concerns

Once your skincare routine feels established and consistent, this is the ideal time to focus on any specific skin concerns such as pigmentation, uneven tone, congestion or fine lines.

At-home skin treatments such as facial peels can be used once or twice per week to support your skincare routine. The Alumier Enzymatic Peel is a powerful at-home peel enriched with 10% lactic acid and fruit enzymes to instantly reveal smoother, refined, and radiant skin by visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.

The eye area can also be neglected during wedding planning, despite stress and fatigue frequently showing there first. Incorporate an eye cream that is specifically formulated to soften the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and fine lines, helping tired eyes look more refreshed.

If you are considering in-clinic treatments to soften wrinkles or boost the skin quality, then now is a good time to discuss this with your aesthetic doctor so that you can start making a treatment plan together with treatment dates leading up to the big day.

6 months before your wedding day: supporting your skin with in-clinic treatments

Six months before your wedding is often the ideal time to begin professional skin treatments to support your skincare routine. A comprehensive skin consultation will analyse the current condition of your skin and where you need support. I take a “whole face approach” to aesthetics treatments, and advise my patients on comprehensive, bespoke treatment plans to create a natural enhancement that is in harmony with the whole face.

I often recommend to my patients ahead of their wedding day a combination of treatments that focus on improving skin health and resilience to achieve radiant and glowing skin. Profhilo and other skin boosters are an ideal choice for anyone seeking to improve hydration, elasticity and skin quality. RF Microneedling and other collagen-stimulating treatments rejuvenate the skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing process to encourage collagen production of the dermis resulting in anti-ageing and improvement of skin texture over time. Starting your treatments early allows gradual and natural-looking improvements without unnecessary stress close to the wedding.

3 months before your wedding day: supporting your skin from within

By this stage, your skin should be feeling and looking healthier, brighter and more balanced. The focus now turns to maintaining your results and supporting overall skin health. At this stage you could introduce a supplement such as Skinade into your routine. Skinade is a liquid food supplement precisely formulated to be easily absorbed by your body and stimulate your body to produce new collagen. The active ingredients are essential for your skin’s hydration, radiance, and elasticity.

1 month before you wedding day: calm and hydrate the skin

As your wedding day approaches, avoid the temptation to overload the skin with new products or aggressive treatments. This phase should focus on calming, hydrating and protecting the skin barrier.

I recommend taking some time once a week to apply a hydrating face mask to replenish moisture and strengthen the skin barrier function. My favourite is the Alumier Hydrarescue Biocellulose Face Mask, which not only hydrates, but also cools the skin and reduces inflammation; ideal for sensitive skin or those suffering with rosacea.

The final week before your wedding day: a less is more approach is best

In the days leading up to the wedding, simplicity is key. I would advise sticking with your established skincare routine and avoiding experimenting with new products close to the wedding day. This can often be a stressful time whilst final plans and arrangements come together, so prioritising rest, quality sleep and stress management can make a visible difference to the skin.
