September has long been known for its ‘back to school energy’ after the summer holidays. Most of us have enjoyed the more relaxed fun Leo energy of the summer where a lot of our habits slide in favour of feeling more carefree and letting go of schedules.
After that period of fun, or over indulging in holiday foods I think most of us really crave some structure, and getting back into the habits and rituals that we know make us feel good in our body. The shift from Leo season to Virgo season energy I feel is really what helps us to do this.
Virgo Season which is very much related to health, nutrition, being of service and getting organised. Virgo is the traditional ‘harvest season’, and back in the day the organisation of the various harvests decided how much food to preserve for the winter, how much to use to make medicines and how much to leave to eat now with higher nutrients, and all of this precision was really key for survival. The season still carries this energy. What are we ‘harvesting’ from our year so far and how are we going to take that into the winter.
So energetically this is naturally a great time to tune in and feel about what wellness rituals and healthy habits we want to bring back into our lives. Where did we get relaxed over the summer, but now not feeling the best in our body? Or where have we been doing certain routines that we might feel bored with and going through the paces, that desperately need a shake up.
September 2026 brings a lot of unique energy to Virgo season that feels really important to mention here.
Firstly we have Jupiter making a harmonious aspect to Saturn, which is a great transit to build something lasting. Think about taking your big ideas and laying foundations for them, so that you can work towards making those ideas real and solid. This is a huge help when we’re thinking about selecting the wellness routines and rituals that will become the foundations for everything else we do in our life.
We’re now on the other side of the two eclipses that took place in August as well. We had the New Moon Eclipse in Leo on the 12th August, and then a Full Moon Eclipse in Pisces on the 28th August. Eclipses are times of things being shaken up, often including endings and beginnings, and life plot twists. Not every eclipse will be ground breaking for every single person, but for some there could have been some really big changes in career, home, relationships and just how we view things in life in general. Even if this eclipse wasn’t personally a huge change for you, internally this can be a bit of a reset button for us all and may have even a subtle different perspective on life afterwards.
How do you feel after the eclipses, what’s changed in your life and how can your wellness and self care support that so that you feel grounded and strong in your body?
The days of the 10th and 11th September are important to note and great for tuning in what you want to commit to with wellness. This is a time for being very intentional about what wellness practices really work for you and your lifestyle, and the ones that light you up and you look forward to.
Over these days we have Venus moving into Scorpio (a sign where we can deep dive on our values, joy, love money and relationships), plus we have the planet Uranus going Retrograde (think an internalisation of creative inner rebel, innovative energy and focusing on individualisation). These energies alone are a huge invitation to really feel which wellness routines and rituals you WANT to reinstate. With all the eclipse energy shift what you did in the Spring might not be the same thing you want to reinstate now. These energies are not just for one day, so there’ll be time to keep tuning into what feels right for you. What’s interesting though, is that they happen right before the New Moon in Virgo.
On 11th September we have the New Moon in Virgo (4:27am BST). This is the first new moon after the eclipse season and when we can start working with setting intentions again (eclipses are not the time to be manifesting but rather observing and seeing what is coming up for you).
This is a classic New Moon for setting intentions around wellness, health and nutrition and committing the things that can help you feel grounded, strong and vibrant in your body. During this new moon we have Venus in opposition to Chiron (the wounded healer). Things might come up around our worth for self care, ‘who am I to take this time for myself’ kind of vibes, which is an opportunity to remind ourselves that any wellness and self care is an investment in ourselves that we are all worthy of.
The invitation for this new moon with all the other planetary energy happening at the same time, is that intentions come from a place of what really works for me, what do I really love doing, and perhaps even finding innovative ways to work with your time and energy. I always recommend trying to glimpse the moon. Even in London where we can’t see so many stars, there’s something about seeing the moon that does anchor us into nature and the cycles of life.
September is also the time of the Autumn Equinox. This year it precisely falls on the 23rd September (1:05am BST). This is the exact moment that the Sun moves from the sign of Virgo into the sign of Libra, although the equinox is always celebrated as the days either side. Equinox is the reminder of balance. As the days slowly become shorter and the nights longer it’s thinking about, “what wisdom are we taking from the summer and bringing into this next season?” What are the things that will bring us joy and fortify us and help us keep balance.
On the 26th September we have an Aries Full Moon conjunct Neptune. Aries is a sign about our independence, where we lead, and following our core desires. Full moons are times of illumination, being able to see and take stock of life. With Neptune involved this illumination has the potential to show us our dreams, but equally if we’ve been living with a deception or delusion this will also be reflected back for us to work on.
This is a month to really strip back and evaluate what’s working for you with wellness and what you’ve outgrown, or what you’re doing because it’s a trend. There’s a lot in here about evaluating where you are in this chapter of life and what works for you now. So go through all your favourite wellness rituals and routines and really find the ones that deserve a place in your life right now. Equally if there is something new in wellness that’s been calling you, but you’ve felt shy or worried about being judged for it, this is the time to give it a go if it lights you up and calls you.
