Team Tries: Can a Simple Supplement Routine Make a Difference? Three Editors Put NOW Foods to the Test

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt over the years, it’s that wellbeing isn’t about chasing the latest trend. Feeling your best comes from the small things you do consistently; eating nourishing food, moving your body, prioritising sleep, managing stress and creating healthy habits that fit into real life.

Of course, even with the best intentions, life has a habit of getting in the way. Busy schedules, travel, family commitments and less-than-perfect diets can all make it difficult to get every nutrient we need from food alone. That’s where a thoughtfully chosen supplement can help support your existing healthy lifestyle.

One brand we’ve recently discovered is NOW Foods, available in the UK through Vytalise. Family-owned since 1968, NOW Foods has built an impressive reputation for producing high-quality supplements that combine rigorous testing, carefully sourced ingredients and exceptional value. Every product is manufactured to strict quality standards, with extensive in-house testing to ensure potency, purity and consistency, something that’s particularly reassuring when choosing supplements you’ll be taking every day.

We’re also fans of Vytalise’s approach to wellness. Rather than promoting quick fixes, the brand champions realistic, long-term habits, carefully curating trusted supplement brands that genuinely support everyday health. Having helped more than 500,000 customers across the UK and Europe, Vytalise makes navigating the sometimes overwhelming world of supplements feel refreshingly simple.

So, with three different wellness goals in mind, three members of the Hip & Healthy team each added a NOW Foods supplement routine to their day to see how easily it slotted into everyday life.

01

Louise Af Petersens, Commercial Director: “Healthy ageing has become one of my biggest priorities.”

As I’ve got older, I’ve become much more interested in looking after my body for the long term rather than searching for quick fixes. Healthy ageing, to me, is about staying active, looking after my joints, supporting my brain and making small, consistent choices that help me feel my best for years to come, especially with a young son who certainly keeps me on my toes.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been taking NOW Foods Ultra Omega-3 Fish Oil alongside NOW Foods Extra Strength Glucosamine & Chondroitin with MSM, and they’ve become an effortless part of my morning routine.

Omega-3 has always been one of those supplements I’ve known I should be taking, but I’d never quite managed to make it a daily habit. This felt like the perfect opportunity to change that. I like knowing I’m giving my body nutritional support that contributes to normal heart and brain function, while also taking a more proactive approach to my long-term health. It’s one of those simple habits that feels like an investment in my future self.

The Glucosamine & Chondroitin with MSM has been a real standout for me. I’ve always suffered with achy joints, thanks to a lovely family history of arthritis, so it’s something I’m increasingly mindful of. Running is a huge part of my wellbeing and I never want sore joints to hold me back from being active. Since making this part of my daily routine, I’ve genuinely noticed that my joints feel more comfortable day to day, and I feel reassured that I’m taking positive steps to look after them for the long term.

Perhaps my biggest takeaway wasn’t one dramatic overnight change, but simply realising how much the small, consistent habits matter. These supplements have become a seamless part of my morning routine and a reminder that healthy ageing isn’t about finding one miracle product. It’s about making thoughtful choices today that help you keep doing the things you love tomorrow.

02

Sadie Reid, Founder + Editor: “I wanted more consistent energy, not another coffee.”

Between running a business, juggling family life and fitting in exercise whenever I can, I often find myself relying on caffeine to keep me going. Lately though, I’ve been trying to focus on supporting my energy more naturally. I decided to try NOW Foods Ubiquinol 100mg, alongside NOW Foods Vitamin D-3 5000 IU.

Ubiquinol is the active form of CoQ10 and plays an important role in energy production within our cells. It’s become increasingly popular, particularly as natural CoQ10 levels can decline with age, making it an interesting addition to a long-term wellbeing routine. I also paired it with Vitamin D-3, which many people in the UK don’t get enough of, particularly during the autumn and winter months when sunlight exposure is limited. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system, helps maintain healthy bones and muscles, and supports overall wellbeing.

What I appreciated most was how simple the routine felt. Taking just a couple of capsules each morning became another positive habit alongside breakfast, rather than something I had to think about. I’ve always believed that energy comes from looking after your body consistently rather than expecting overnight transformations, and this felt like another small investment in feeling my best. Amazingly I found that I am no longer reaching for that 4pm pick me up (in the form of some chocolate or a cup of tea) that has always felt so needed to get me through a busy afternoon of juggling work and kids. And I think this is just the beginning…

03

Saskia Gregson-Williams, Social Media Manager:“I’m all about keeping my immune system supported.”

I’m someone who’s constantly on the go. Whether it’s travelling, working long days or fitting workouts around everything else, I really notice it when my immune system isn’t firing on all cylinders. That’s why I chose NOW Foods Zinc Picolinate 50mg. Zinc is an essential mineral that contributes to the normal function of the immune system and also plays a role in maintaining healthy skin, hair and nails. I specifically liked that this formula uses zinc picolinate, a form that’s commonly chosen for its absorption.

For me, supplements aren’t about replacing healthy habits, they’re there to support them. I still prioritise eating plenty of colourful vegetables, getting outside, exercising regularly and aiming for enough sleep, but taking zinc each morning has become another small ritual that helps me feel like I’m giving my body that little bit of extra support. Sometimes it’s these tiny habits that are the easiest to stick with and ultimately make the biggest difference over time. I am about to fly abroad to visit a friend, and I am so happy knowing that my immune system has this added defence system that will keep me happy and healthy for the whole trip, especially as the summer ends and winter bugs start lurking around. There is no way that I will stop now. In fact – I might just see if there is anything else from NOW Foods I can pair it with to feel the benefits even more.

The Verdict

None of us expected a supplement to transform our health overnight and that’s exactly the point.

The biggest lesson from our team trial was that feeling well is built through consistency. Healthy food, movement, sleep and stress management will always be the foundations of good health, but adding carefully chosen, high-quality supplements can be a simple way to help support your body’s everyday nutritional needs and long-term wellness goals.
