January often arrives with a lot of noise. The pressure to do everything at once can feel overwhelming before the year has even properly begun. This year, I wanted to try something different. Less about discipline, more about building simple, supportive habits I could actually sustain. It’s totally in line with what our whole “Back to Wellness” campaign at Hip & Healthy is about. You see – I really don’t believe in changing everything in January in order to find the best version of me – that just never works, as come February I am burnt out and bored. Having said that, I do believe that January has a lovely energy to it – a time when we can make goals for the year ahead and look at creating small, achievable daily habits that are going to make a big difference. 

This year it is all about the micro-habits – adding in or changing small habits that can lead to a big difference. Day 1: A Softer Start

I begin the week feeling totally depleted, having just returned to work after the festive season plus a ski holiday with the kids and friends. Needless to say that I did not hold back on the booze – something that my body is actually not very used to. Teamed with a period of late nights, rich food and very little routine, I know that I need to treat my body and mind kindly even though I feel like over-hauling my whole life right now in the spirit of January. 

Instead, I decide my only non-negotiable is hydration. Supporting immunity starts with the basics, and being well-hydrated helps maintain the body’s natural barriers against germs. It feels like the most achievable place to begin.

It’s a simple truth that’s easy to overlook. I got two colds before Christmas – and one of them lasted for weeks – it was awful – I just feel so much better knowing I have a proper routine in place now that will help protect me from them in the future. 

I start the day with a spin session on my Peloton, then meditate for ten minutes with a hot cup of Phizz Daily Immune+ next to me. I think hot is the way forward for me!

Day 7: A Reset That Feels Sustainable

A week in, this didn’t feel like a “challenge” completed, but a habit formed. I feel overjoyed that I have actually stuck at this and it’s the easiest thing to do in the world, and more importantly, it feels totally realistic enough to continue.
