There are many women that have made it to the very top of the beauty world and one woman dominating the industry is Kate Somerville. Following the success of her first clinic in Los Angeles which opened back in 2004, Kate has marked her stamp of approval with a roster of A-listers and celebrities block booking her treatment slots. New York was next on Kate’s hit list, being a hub for wellness-loving socialites. Fast-forward 18 years later, Kate Somerville has grown from an independent skin clinic to a global multi-million dollar skincare brand and has brought her innovative treatments across the Atlantic, opening the newest clinic to the UK at none other than Harvey Nichols, London’s luxury department store in Knightsbridge.
Hosting a star-studded lineup of signature facials, utilising the very best of the Kate Somerville skincare products, the treatments give clinical results in a luxe beauty setting. Kate Somerville’s background is built first and foremost on skin health. Her early career was spent in a post-surgery rehab clinic where she learned how to get the patient’s skin back to optimal health. Being a sufferer of eczema herself, Kate knows what it means to have ‘less than skin’ and is a firm believer that you can get your skin back to health through the power of great products.
A tell-tell sign of a noteworthy brand is when the product is born naturally out of demand by the client, and that’s exactly how ‘Kate Somerville’, the skincare brand began its journey to success. Regular clients wanted to bottle up their regular facial treatment to take with them when they went away for long periods of time. Kate would create her own little potions of magic for her clients, and thus the idea was planted and ‘Kate Somerville’ the brand was born.
Now, 50 odd products later, Kate Somerville has proven way more than just an aesthetician and the treatments are a testament to that. Offering five unique facials that are then tailored to your skin needs, the treatment menu has something for everyone.
I experienced the Platinum Signature Facial which was 75 minutes of pure and utter bliss. Kicking off with a double cleanse using the creamy goat milk cleanser, my technician talked me through the steps of my treatment. There were various steps carried out, all tailored to my skin, from a thorough exfoliation for the face and décolletage using the renowned ExfoliKate, steam and gentle extraction to get rid of any impurities, DermalQuench Oxygen treatment which supercharges the skin with moisture, a rejuvenating jelly mask that uses a thick formula which is only for professional use (much to my disappointment as it smelt incredible!), LightStim LED light therapy and a relaxing neck and shoulder massage to top it all off. What really takes this treatment to the next level is the use of the latest and greatest skin technology, the results that the innovative machinery achieves are mind-blowingly good. My desired outcome for the facial was for glowing skin and boy oh boy, did it deliver! I’ve had countless facials in my time and this seriously topped them all.
