As the pace of modern life reaches an all time high, it can sometimes feel like we are constantly in a rush and so it’s no wonder that more and more people are experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety. For those in need of a moment to breathe, meditation has become an essential tool for regaining a sense of calm. With our growing addiction to social media and our iPhones becoming a fifth limb, it can sometimes feel impossible to let go and just be…And this is where meditation comes in. Whilst we seem to have become accustomed to doing 101 things at once, our stress levels are actually yet to catch up, and this can lead to some pretty nasty side effects: lack of sleep, brain fog, mood swings, and not to mention dull hair and skin – sound familiar?

Meditation boasts an array of emotional, mental and physical side effects – that is if you commit to practising regularly. Taking just 10 minutes out of the day to practice meditation allows your mind to rest and prepare itself to approach the day with a sense of calm. Additionally, research has proven that those who meditate regularly are more positive, less panicky and far more focused when completing everyday tasks. Still not convinced? Meditation also reduces your body’s cortisol levels which can help to improve your metabolism, sleep quality and the appearance of your skin and hair.

It’s no surprise then that over the last few years, apps such as Headspace, SexyMind and Calm have become super popular. But now London’s first drop-in meditation studios are providing a physical oasis away from working life – where do we sign up?!
