We’ve been saying this since the beginning of January but 2018 really is the year of the gut. Finding optimal health isn’t as simple as just eating your veggies and going to the gym regularly. Our gut is our second brain, it’s where our immunity stems from and it’s how we absorb all the nutrients we need to function well. If it’s not working properly, it’s likely other ailments will rear their ugly head like bloating, IBS, troublesome skin, fatigue, poor immunity etc.

So what can we do to give our gut a helping hand? Aside from finding a good probiotic supplement, you’ll want to welcome fermentation to your life! Fermented foods go through a process of lacto-fermentation where natural bacteria feed on the starches and sugars in food. The process of fermenting food creates an abundance of beneficial enzymes and multiple strains of probiotics, all incredibly important for our gut health.

But… fermented foods are an acquired taste, to say the least! Some people love them, some people hate them, it’s a personal preference! If you’re not so keen on fermented foods but still want to get all the gut benefits then fill your fridge with Remedy Kombucha!

What is Remedy Kombucha you might ask? It’s simply a delicious fermented tea! The traditional method of making kombucha (which the awesome people at Remedy follow) involves a natural fermentation of sweet tea with a live culture. The result is a sparkling drink with sweet and sour flavours that contain live cultures and organic acids that are good for your gut… AND it actually tastes good!

What are the benefits?

Live Cultures
– Remedy ensures their glass-bottled kombucha is raw, unpasteurised and unfiltered which means it contains healthy live cultures, which really support and promote good gut health. Live cultures increase the diversity of gut flora, aka the microorganisms (or bugs) that live in your gut. They work by fighting the growth of bad bugs so the more diversity in there, the better things will work!

Healthy Organic Acids – Organic acids, also known as short chain fatty acids, are produced during the natural brewing process of making kombucha. These acids can prevent overgrowth of bad pathogenic bacteria, provide an energy source for the good bacteria to thrive on, help stabilise blood sugar levels and regulate cholesterol.

Antioxidants – Remedy Kombucha is full to the brim with naturally occurring poluphenols – nutrients which are rich in antioxidants to help the body fight illness and slow down the ageing process. Found in the organic green and black tea that form the base of their unique brew, these polyphenols play an important role as a prebiotic to increase the ratio of beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Naturally Sugar-Free – To top it all off, Remedy Kombucha is sugar-free! Something we are so so happy about. The negative effects of excess sugar in our diets are well known so Remedy wanted to create the perfect brew that didn’t compromise on your health. The beauty of Remedy’s kombucha blend is that although sugar goes into the initial brew, the live cultures eat it all up during the fermentation process to produce the amazing benefits listed above. They basically brew out all of the sugar and test every batch before packaging to make sure it’s all gone! If that’s not enough to convince you, it’s got the seal of approval by Sarah Wilson, founder of I Quit Sugar. Need we say more?

With lots of different flavours to choose from (our fave being Raspberry Lemonade!), it’s the perfect drink to pack in your picnic basket this summer!
